School Gardens
Redwood Elementary has a thriving learning garden where students connect with nature, explore where food comes from, and develop curiosity and care for the living world around them.
About the garden
Our school garden is a hands-on learning space available to all students. The garden is staffed by Iris Hemmings, who brings lessons to life in the soil, among the plants, and through the seasons.
Garden visits
Every class visits the garden twice per month for a structured lesson with Iris. Teachers also bring their classes to the garden on a weekly basis for more open-ended exploration and connection to classroom learning.
Spring plant sale
Each spring, the garden hosts a plant sale open to the school community. Proceeds go directly back into supporting the ongoing needs of the garden — from seeds and soil to tools and new plantings. It's a wonderful way to take a little bit of Redwood home with you while helping the garden grow.
